François Jalbert – Guitar (6 Juillet / July 6th)

Biographie:

Jeune guitariste montréalais, François Jalbert fait ses premières armes à travers la musique de Django Reinhardt. Il étudie par la suite à l’Université de Montréal en Interprétation Jazz où il se démarque en remportant deux années consécutives, la Bourse en Guitare Jazz du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. Depuis, il ne cesse d’accroitre sa présence sur la scène québécoise, notamment avec de multiples prestations au FIJM : en 2008 avec son propre quartet de jazz manouche, en 2009 et 2010 avec les combos de l’Université de Montréal et en 2012 avec son projet de musique originale. De plus, François Jalbert a eu l’occasion de travailler avec de nombreux artistes influents, autant au Québec qu’en France et aux États-Unis. Très actif sur la scène jazz montréalaise, il vient de compléter une maîtrise en composition et interprétation jazz à l’Université McGill. François Jalbert a aussi remporté le Grand Prix de Guitare de Montréal dans la catégorie jazz en 2006 et en 2008. Son premier album en tant que leader, Sens Unique, est paru en  mai 2012 sur l’étiquette Oddsound Records

Biography:

Young Montreal guitarist & composer François Jalbert made his debut through the music of Django Reinhardt. He later studied at the University of Montreal in Jazz Performance where he distinguished himself in winning two consecutive years, the Scholarship in Jazz Guitar, offered by the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal (FIJM). Since then, he continues to increase his presence on the Quebec scene, especially with multiple performances at the FIJM: in 2008 with his gipsy quartet in 2009, in 2010 with the combos of the University of Montreal, and in 2012 with his jazz quartet. In addition, François Jalbert had the opportunity to work with many influential artists, not only in Quebec, but also in the United States. Very active on the Montreal jazz scene, he just completed a Master degree at McGill University in composition and jazz performance. François Jalbert has also won the Grand Prix of Montreal guitar in the jazz category in 2006 and 2008. His first album as a leader, Sens Unique, was released in may 2012 on Oddsound Records.
