Biographie:

Tromboniste au sein de la Fanfare GRÜV’N BRASS, Olivier Hébert est aussi contre-bassiste et compositeur. Il écrit et dirige le LoFi Octet, projet unique mélangeant le quatuor à cordes et le jazz contemporain. Partageant son temps entre l’écriture et la performance tant comme tromboniste que contrebassiste, il est actif dans groupes aux styles variés. Il sera de la série du Bleury Bar à Vinyle comme tromboniste.

Le contrebassiste Olivier Hébert accumule parallèlement de l’expérience en orchestre ainsi qu’en petite formation jazz, il compose pour un ensemble hybride réunissant un quatuor à corde et un quatuor jazz. Ses talents de compositeur et d’orchestrateur sont ainsi mis en relief par l’originalité de la musique, l’unicité des agencements sonores et la virtuosité de ces complices musiciens. Tromboniste et compositeur au sein de la formation Grüv’n Brass, il est boursier du conseil des arts du Québec à l’hiver 2011, reconnaissance sans équivoque de ses qualités d’instrumentiste, d’arrangeur et de compositeur. Il a aussi contribué a quelques albums d’artistes émergents de la scène montréalaise tels que Misteur Valaire (Golden Bombay, 2011), Alice and the Intellects (Éponyme, 2011), La Patère Rose (Éponyme, 2009) Jérôme Dupuis-Cloutier (Éponyme, 2010) et Fanny Bloom (mars 2012).

Biography:

Trombonist and co-founder of the GRÜV’N BRASS band, Olivier Hébert is also a talented upright bass player. He writes mainly for his LoFi Octet, mixing a jazz combo to a string quartet. Apart from his own projects, he works as a freelancer in different montréal based band. He will participate in the Bleury Bar à Vinyle Jazz composer séries as a trombone player.

Taking advantage of his versatility, Olivier Hébert progressively gained experience as an orchestral bass player, and as a jazz bass player as well. By then he was composing for a hybrid ensemble mixing a jazz quartet to a string quartet. His composing and arranging talents have been since revealed by his music originality, his sound-shaping singularity and by the virtuosity of his fellowship musician. Trombone player, composer and cofounder of Grüv’n Brass, he has been rewarded by Quebec’s council for art and literature (CALQ, winter 2011), official recognition of his instrumental, arranging and composing talents.
