Biographie:

En très peu de temps, Rachel Therrien a réussi à se démarquer en tant que trompettiste non seulement sur la scène musicale du Québec, mais également à l’international. Toujours au début de sa carrière, elle compte à son actif d’innombrables expériences musicales aux cotés de plusieurs artistes de renom tel que Vic Vogel, Remi Bolduc, Oliver Jones, Carole Welsman, L’orchestre Anacaona de Cuba, Klimax, Michel Legrand, Ginette Reno, Alex Bellegarde, Sophie Desmarais, etc.

Vu sa persévérance et ses grands rêves, le parcourt de la trompettiste Rachel Therrien se distingue beaucoup des artistes de sa génération. En 2008, Rachel se perfectionne durant 9 mois sur l’ile de Cuba avec de grands musiciens cubains tels que : Elpidio Chappotin, Yasek Man-zano et Gorge Rubio. En 2010, elle termine un baccalauréat de l’Université de Montréal en interprétation jazz, sous l’enseignement du trom-pettiste Ron Di Lauro. Depuis elle dirige son tout nouveau projet, le « Rachel Therrien Quintet », et accumule des retombées de son 1er opus.

Grâce au Conseil des Arts et Lettres du Québec, Rachel a participée au Banff Center Jazz and Creative Music Workshop 2012. Elle est pas la suite parti se perfectionner durant 4 mois directement à New York. Elle eut la chance d’apprendre de grands noms comme Dave Douglas, Vdjay Iyer, Laurie Frink, John McNeil, Ralph Alessi, Jonathan Fynlayson, Tyshawn Sorey et plusieurs autres. Depuis, elle est en création de son prochain album et présente une nouvelle série lors du Festival de Jazz 2013,  la « Série Compositeurs Jazz ».

Biography:

In a very short time, Rachel Therrien has distinguished herself as trumpeter not only in the Montreal music scene, but internationally as well. Still in the upstart of her career, her vast experience has included performances with renowned artists such as Vic Vogel, Remi Bolduc, Oliver Jones, Carole Welsman, Anancaona de Cuba, Klimax, Michel Legrand, Ginette Reno, Alex Bellegrade, Sophie Desmarais, and more.

Rachel is perseverant and works relentlessly at making her dream come true. Her musical journey stands out among many artists of her generation. In 2008, Rachel spent 9 months at the Superior Institute of Arts in Cuba to develop her technique and study with great Cuban musicians such as Elidio Chappotin, Yasek Manzano and Gorge Rubio. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz interpretation at Université de Montréal in 2010 under the direction of her trumpet professor, Ron Di Lauro. Since then, she directs her own new project, the “Rachel Therrien Quintet”.

Original compositions from Rachel Therrien at her best, accompanied by an ensemble of the best emerging musicians in Montreal! Their first album “On Tack” came out on last September 8th, and since, they are multiplying the critics and articles. The first song of the album “Yemaya à Montréal” from Rachel Therrien, got on 1st place of Radio-Canada’s Palmares Jazz of Espace Musique!

Thanks to a grant received from “Conseil des arts et Lettres du Québec”, Rachel went to study with some great jazz master at the Banff Center Jazz and Creative music Workshop 2012 and she then spend 4 months studying and exploring in New York City. She had he chance to learn from people like Dave Douglas, Vdjay Iyer, Laurie Frink, Jonathan Finlayson, John Mc Neil, Tyshawn Sorey, and many more. Since then, she’s working on the creation of her second album also as hosting a new series, “Jazz Composers Series”, during the Montreal Jazz Festival.
