Biographie: 

 

Bachelier de  l’Université McGill, Il a étudié avec quelques-uns des meilleurs musiciens de Montréal, notamment; Alexandre Côté, Jean-Pierre Zanella, André Leroux, Rémi Bolduc, Frank Lozano et Jan Jarczyk. Boursier du CALQ,  il a parfait  également  son art  avec le saxophoniste de renommée internationale Donny McCaslin à New York.  Professeur de saxophone et clinicien dans différentes écoles, Mario a tourné au Québec, au Canada et en Europe avec différents groupes comme Vénus 3, La Chango Family, Papagroove et Coyote Bill. Il a participé également à des revues musicales tels Dance Sing et Get up qui ont été présentés à Paris et à Montréal. Il a partagé la scène avec  plusieurs artistes tels Éric Lapointe, Michel Pagliaro, Marjo, Echo Kalypso, Fat Tuesday Brass Band, La Fanfare Jarry et plusieurs autres.

À l’édition 2008 du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, son groupe de jazz, le MAQ “Mario Allard Quintet”  se démarque et remporte le Prix Galaxie Radio-Canada/CBC remis au compositeur de la meilleur pièce musicale présentée parmi les groupes en lice.

Biography:

Throughout his high school years, his role in various jazz ensembles under the supervision of Alexandre Côté allowed his playing to evolve.  Mario pursued his studies in jazz saxophone, first at Cégep St-Laurent, then at McGill University from which he obtained a Bachelors degree in Jazz Performance in 2006.  He has studied with some of the best musicians in Montreal, namely: Jean-Pierre Zanella, André Leroux, Rémi Bolduc, Frank Lozano and Jan Jarczyk. In 2010, he received a grant from the Conseil des Arts du Québec and studied with Donny McCaslin.

From 2001 to 2006, Mario was a member of Vénus 3 and La Chango Family.  In addition to having toured extensively throughout Quebec and Canada as a musician in theses groups, he took part in a greater venture which led him to Belgium, France, Switzerland and Spain.

He has performed most notably at the Francopholies Festivals in Montreal, Spa and La Rochelle, and also in the Festival de Jazz de Montreux. He took part in the Parisian production Danse Sing and the Montreal production Get Up. Mario can regularly be seen in concert with Coyote Bill and Papagroove.  He has also performed with Éric Lapointe, Michel Pagliaro, Marjo, Echo Kalypso, Vic Vogel, the Fat Tuesday Brass Band, Rick L. Blues and Michel Donato.  He also participated in the Just for Laughs Festival in Toronto, where he accompanied comedians Martin Short and Jason Alexander. During the 2008 Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Mario was awarded the Prix Galaxie Radio- Canada/CBC for the best composition presented by a selection of nominated groups.
